Day 3

I didn't accomplish too much today... Spent most of the day getting the engine hoist and the screws for the engine stand. Then spent hours getting the star drive driver to get the flywheel off. DON'T use a Torx. Other than that, I mostly cleaned stuff up and removed some remaining items. I also made a huge mess when I turned the engine upside down on the stand - just because you've drained the oil pan and the heads does not mean all the oil and coolant is out of the engine!

Engine hoist in place and attached. That's my neighbor Hugh who helped with the engine hoist.

The engine is bolted to the stand.

Yes, it IS a basement workshop!

The smog pump finally removed! Thanks to Jay Kempf and Dave Shaeffer!

I removed the cross-brace next. I believe that this is ususally left IN the car.

Here it is removed.

Then the motor mounts - probably time to replace these. I also removed the headers but didn't document since it was pretty straightforward.

Next I removed the oil level sender. It took almost a whole can of brake cleaner just to be able to see it! And here, I thought David Lloyd was joking when he told he buys brake cleaner buy the case. I'm already through three cans and I haven't even been trying to clean anything!

Here it is removed.

Another shot of it.

I then removed the oil pan so that I could see the insides of the engine. I think I spent about an hour and a half getting all the !@(#**!@(#* little bolts out. After looking at it for a while I put the pan back on - with four bolts.

Pretty impressive, huh?
Loading...
Back to work.. Removed the other motor mount. Hope Devek is still having a sale on these when I get done.
Loading...
Removed the alternator mount.
Loading...
Threaded the cable to the alternator out of the rear engine cover.
Loading...
Had to remove the oil pressure sender in order to disconnect the wire attached to it.
Loading...
Don't forget to put the spring in when you put it back in!
Loading...
Remember the spring!
Loading...
Okay! Enough already!
Loading...
I SAID ENOUGH ALREADY!
Loading...
Now I'm really threading the cable out.
Loading...
Removed the bar that the rear fuel pressure damper and fuel pressure regulator are attached to.
Loading...
Not sure what this ground wire is called exactly.
Loading...
Not a very useful picture.
