The first step. |
Really bad fishmouth |
Now if the pieces would just weld themselves... |
Someday I'm going to make a decent clamp for angles.. |
All ready to be tacked.. |
The very first tack. |
Tacking the other side. |
Complete weld on one of the two un-tacked sides. |
Completed weld |
Attaching the foot - more creative clamping. |
All tacked up and nowhere to go. |
All welded.. |
I didn't have an appropriate size block, so I welded two pieces together and then machined the block square. |
I slit the end of the tubing to make it easier to weld the blocks in. |
Block in place and ready to be welded. |
Now I have enough metal to drill and tap.. |
Using a center drill to make a pilot. |
I really gotta get a better oil dispenser. 1 quart containers of motor oil are messy. |
Eeek!! Don't make me go in there! It looks like Husky snow! |
Look at that nice threaded hole! |
What a lame fishmouth. I'm embarassed to admit that I did it! |
It's starting to look like something.. Check out the blue foot bolt! |
Adding some braces to support the main cross-piece. |
Look at my blue tungsten! |
I really wanted a piece of angle plate here but didn't have any of the right size. Fortunately, as long as the bowing is even it won't be a problem. |
I machined down the sides of the rear brace and gave it a bit of a curve where the two pieces meet. |
I welded two pieces to the sides of the rear brace for added strength. |
Almost done! |
Wow! Look at that! 11.5 hours and $40 worth of materials later and I have a stand that I could buy at Home Depot for $19.99! |
Sure looks cool though. And it folds up nice. |
